The Punjab Mandi Board has taken another unique step in providing Seed Treatment Drums to all the Gram Panchayats in the State free of cost in a phased manner. The quality treatment drums are being manufacture by Punjab State Agro Industries Corporation and the Board has undertaken an expenditure of Rs. 10 Lacs. The idea behind this effort is that with proper treatment of seeds the level of production goes up and the treated varieties of crops do not have high perishability and provide to farmers a sufficient quantum of produce, some of which hitherto meant for self consumption, becomes a marketable surplus and the Punjab Mandi Board is quick enough to ensure to its profitable marketing. This is a far sighted measure by the Punjab Mandi Board and the supply of one seed treatment drum per panchayat is intended to be the catalyst, which will make the farmers to realise the importance of the seed treatment and once its usefulness is proved and appreciated by the Punjab farmers, it will become a way of life in the process of agriculture production.
